Osteopathy Treatment for

Pre/Post Natal

SSW London Osteopathy Line
Osteopathic treatment during and after pregnancy can be beneficial in a number of ways:
  • Easing some of the physical discomforts of pregnancy

  • Preparing for the demands of labour

  • Helping the mother to recover after birth

Common complaints that osteopathy can help with during pregnancy and after:
  • Low back pain
  • Coccyx pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Head aches
  • Rib pain
  • Sacroiliac and hip pain

In the second half of pregnancy, postural changes accommodate the weight of the bump and breasts. The lumbar spine, hips and pelvis must all be free to move, in order to allow the postural adaptations to occur easily.

The change in weight bearing in pregnant women also put lots of stress around the upper half of the body and cervical spine pain and neck pain is not uncommon.

After giving birth, the body not only has to recover from the changes underwent during pregnancy, but also from the effects of delivery; it must also cope with the demands of having a new baby. Caring for a baby can place enormous strain on the back, during such activities as nursing in poor positions, lifting, car seats, reaching over the cot, or carrying a child on one hip.

Osteopathic treatment can help the mother to return to normal after birth by releasing strains from both pregnancy and labour. This allows her to relax and enjoy motherhood with less pains and aches.
